Not So Odd

I love odd numbers. No, even numbers are unlucky. Ok, they freak me out. I know, I know, this is a bit Meshugenah, but it works for me. I require an odd number of kisses from my boys. Same for hugs. M & M's. You get the idea.Thirteen is my lucky number. But , just for this week, I am so digging the number "two".
This Wednesday marks two years since Hayden's most recent surgery, The Fontan. It was quite a rough experience ( feel free to read posts from March and April 2009). Oddly( pun intended), I am feeling a bit emotional this week. Not pull over on the side of the road and meltdown emotional, but emotional, nonetheless. I keep recalling some really horrific moments, but can only seem to see the good in them. The amazing medical staff that helped us fight for Hayden keep popping into my mind. Moments when Hayden accomplished things for the first time seem to win out over watching him gasp for air. I am feeling appreciative of how far he has come in two years and that we have had these two years. Also appreciating that those two years are behind us.
In order to properly honor the two years, I am ( gulp) going to focus on the frighteningly even number "two" and the things I appreciate, in pairs.
1. Two Cardiology check ups a year. ( WOOHOO!)
2. Two visits to the PICU this year. One to drop off Hayden's B-day gifts ( he donated them to kids who were inpatient) . One to bring treats to the PICU staff. Both social calls.
3.Two INR checks a month...most months.
4.Two upcoming airplane trips for Hayden. His first:-)
5. Two weeks at the beach. Hayden's idea...I didn't need any arm twisting.
6. Two (x3) Annual Hayden's Heart Heroes Golf Tournament- Fri. June 24, 2011 ( I know, I cheated. 6th annual)
7.Two TV appearances for our family.
8.Two Lazorchak's participating in the B-more ten miler. Me- 10 miles. Hayden- kids fun run- his very first ( Rob has many other races scheduled, too.).
9.Two boys swimming each week. Loved seeing them in the pool at the same time.
10. Two (to four) hours a day after school with just Hayden.
11.Two parents. My Mom and Dad Rock.
12. Two more parents.Rob's Mom and Dad Rock.
13. Two, more, more parents. Lynn and Dave Rock.
14.Too many friends to name who love and support us as well as our fundraising efforts. Y'all now who you are. It has been a great two years to share in so many good times together.
15. Two wild and crazy fools. Uncle Robot-Chicken and Aunt Jenn.
16. Two sets of Lazorchak Aunts, Uncles and cousins.
17. Two days of every week to spend with my favorite two people in the world.
18.Too many medical staff to name. You amaze me with the work you do, daily. Your guidance and support and frienship has always been so meaningful to us.
19.Two halves of a career. And one half is over!!! ( OK, that one was all about me...but, you know.)
20.Two minutes it takes Hayden and I to walk home from the bus stop. So happy to see each other and share in each other's days.
21.Two AMAZING, ridiculous, loving boys to share my life with. Endless smiles and laughs.
22. Two twos. 22nd. Hayden will turn 7 on June 22nd.It is a date that marks a new beginning for me. On that day, I not only became a Mom, but I became a much different person. The adversity we have faced has been challenging and heart-breaking, at times. But, it has made me a far better person. Hayden is someome I admire, greatly. He lives every single day to the fullest and with a smile. I want to be just like him when I grow up. If I ever grow up.
