Book Drive
Second annual book drive sponsored by Hayden’s Heart Heroes to benefit The Johns Hopkins Children’s Center.
Now through November 15, 2011, we will be collecting new books for children who are inpatient at The Johns Hopkins Children’s Center. Hospital stays can be lengthy and difficult. A good book is a great way for a child to escape into the world of literature, for just a bit.
Please consider donating a new book (or more than one) for a child ages infant through eighteen.
Donations may be dropped off or mailed to:
• 1719 Canal Run Drive, Point of Rocks, MD 21777
• Frederick High School
• Ali/RobLazorchak can meet you somewhere. (Email Alilaz@aol.com to arrange pick up)
• In the Baltimore area, contact Jeffrey Silverman, tenor4th@comcast.net ,to coordinate drop-off/pick -up.
Please help us put a book in the hands of every child in the hospital.
Thank you for your support.

Spring Has Sprung
With Spring springing, so are the opportunities to flaunt your pale, flabby or " sexy" bod. Yes, oh, yes, things are popping up ( or out) everywhere.
As you know, I enjoy the people watching more than the average Joe, but Spring takes it to a whole new level. A new birth of the innappropriate. I have been blessed to be out and about socially and to be employed at a high school. This combination makes for some fantastic sightings. While some dance on the edge of innappropriate, others seem to think they are dancers. I spotted the rare, overweight, vertically challenged young woman wearing a shorts legnth, black, strapless unitard with a large black belt that hit just below her...gut, Yes, gut. Apparently you to have to " gutsy" to donn the shorts unitard. To her credit, she did have on a hot pink shrug to cover her shoulders. It is all about modesty.
Another favorite sighting involves the male swimsuit. While sitting poolside during Hayden's most recent lesson, I spotted a young man from the swim tean sporting his tiny black Speedo. No problem. Speedos and swim team go together. Except, apparently this fella has grown a bit since last purchasing a Speedo. The deep indentations around his groin and rear make me think that his swimming might be hindered by the Speedo cutting off circulation to lower region. I am not a man ( Stop.Shocking revelation. Rob, did you know?), but I am thinking that you want circulation down there. Size up, dear friend, size up.
The most frequent Spring sighting involves the " girls". " Oh, it is warm out. I MUST show off my breasts. I need not wear a bra. Huzzah!" Yes, tis the season for letting the girls roam free, airing em' out after a long winter of being covered in layers of camis and sweaters. Who can resist a crisp white tee with a " hint" of what is hiding underneath? Umm, me. That goes for the extra extra low cut shirt as well, espicially if your "girls" are extra extra large. ( No, I am, NOT jealous. I like the little "girls" and was recently complimented on how well my bras fit/lift. The compliment did come from a crazy old loon who might possible drink mid-day...hmm. I have digressed.) Unless you are on a field trip to a bad strip club, no one wants to see your big ole stretch mark floppy flapjacks. Cover it up. And please do not lean forward. Ever.
My absolute favorite sighting of the season is the too tiny mini ( dress or skirt). I am a short girl.I get the short skirt thing. But, if you cannot bend over, say three inches, without your cheeks or goods hanging out, don't wear it. I mean, you can't plan on standing straight up all day and you will need to sit down ( oh, the horror). And, forget it if you drop your keys. Ay carumba...your cheeks are peeking out while the "girls" fall out of your top. Which end to you try to cover first? It is a disaster.
Oh, the joys of Spring. Can't wait for summer. Oh, pool and beachside people watching...
Off to buy me a unitard... with a shrug, of course. All class here.

Not So Odd
I love odd numbers. No, even numbers are unlucky. Ok, they freak me out. I know, I know, this is a bit Meshugenah, but it works for me. I require an odd number of kisses from my boys. Same for hugs. M & M's. You get the idea.Thirteen is my lucky number. But , just for this week, I am so digging the number "two".
This Wednesday marks two years since Hayden's most recent surgery, The Fontan. It was quite a rough experience ( feel free to read posts from March and April 2009). Oddly( pun intended), I am feeling a bit emotional this week. Not pull over on the side of the road and meltdown emotional, but emotional, nonetheless. I keep recalling some really horrific moments, but can only seem to see the good in them. The amazing medical staff that helped us fight for Hayden keep popping into my mind. Moments when Hayden accomplished things for the first time seem to win out over watching him gasp for air. I am feeling appreciative of how far he has come in two years and that we have had these two years. Also appreciating that those two years are behind us.
In order to properly honor the two years, I am ( gulp) going to focus on the frighteningly even number "two" and the things I appreciate, in pairs.
1. Two Cardiology check ups a year. ( WOOHOO!)
2. Two visits to the PICU this year. One to drop off Hayden's B-day gifts ( he donated them to kids who were inpatient) . One to bring treats to the PICU staff. Both social calls.
3.Two INR checks a month...most months.
4.Two upcoming airplane trips for Hayden. His first:-)
5. Two weeks at the beach. Hayden's idea...I didn't need any arm twisting.
6. Two (x3) Annual Hayden's Heart Heroes Golf Tournament- Fri. June 24, 2011 ( I know, I cheated. 6th annual)
7.Two TV appearances for our family.
8.Two Lazorchak's participating in the B-more ten miler. Me- 10 miles. Hayden- kids fun run- his very first ( Rob has many other races scheduled, too.).
9.Two boys swimming each week. Loved seeing them in the pool at the same time.
10. Two (to four) hours a day after school with just Hayden.
11.Two parents. My Mom and Dad Rock.
12. Two more parents.Rob's Mom and Dad Rock.
13. Two, more, more parents. Lynn and Dave Rock.
14.Too many friends to name who love and support us as well as our fundraising efforts. Y'all now who you are. It has been a great two years to share in so many good times together.
15. Two wild and crazy fools. Uncle Robot-Chicken and Aunt Jenn.
16. Two sets of Lazorchak Aunts, Uncles and cousins.
17. Two days of every week to spend with my favorite two people in the world.
18.Too many medical staff to name. You amaze me with the work you do, daily. Your guidance and support and frienship has always been so meaningful to us.
19.Two halves of a career. And one half is over!!! ( OK, that one was all about me...but, you know.)
20.Two minutes it takes Hayden and I to walk home from the bus stop. So happy to see each other and share in each other's days.
21.Two AMAZING, ridiculous, loving boys to share my life with. Endless smiles and laughs.
22. Two twos. 22nd. Hayden will turn 7 on June 22nd.It is a date that marks a new beginning for me. On that day, I not only became a Mom, but I became a much different person. The adversity we have faced has been challenging and heart-breaking, at times. But, it has made me a far better person. Hayden is someome I admire, greatly. He lives every single day to the fullest and with a smile. I want to be just like him when I grow up. If I ever grow up.

Resolutions Resolved
On this day, the last day of the year, I have heard so much chatter about New Years Resolutions. I really never partake in this ritual. It seems fruitless. I watch others resolve to make changes only to feel a huge sense of failure when they are unable to do so.
Now, I am not perfect. ( I know. This just rocked your world.) I could change a thing or two. So, I guess If I were to make some resolutions they would include the following:
- Be less caddy/gossipy.
- Stop being such an OCD neat freak.
- Drink less ( than an alcoholic).
- Eat breakfast, daily. Decaf coffee is not a meal.
-Allow Rob to do things like fix his bike in the kitchen without freaking out.
- Stop hugging Hayden for ten minutes before he goes to bed each night while driving Rob crazy waiting for the love-fest to end.
- Back off the technology; no more texting while on the house phone and using the ipad.
-Admit that I need help sometimes ( although only from people who know what they are doing and by that I mean people who will do things my way)
- Stop laughing at others.
- Encourage Rob and Hayden to make a mess and clean it up later.
-Shower every Sunday. ( What???? Stop judging.)
- Cheer on a winning NFL team.
- Accept things that are not in my control.
There. These are things I could resolve to change. But, looking at this list, well, I'd just plain suck. I'd be a laid back, sober, girl, who doesn't gossip, is always clean, kind to others and cheering on a team like ( gulp) The Ravens. UGH.
No thanks. I resolve to continue being a sarcastic, chatty, uptight, loving person who cheers on the Redskins ( I'm loyal, too!)while chugging a beer at a MD tailagate and kissing and hugging Hayden as often and as long as he will let me. Eventually, it will seem wrong...like when he is 20?
I hope to continue to be me. Love me or leave me ( Not you , Rob. No leaving.)
Now, who wants to vacum... I sense crumbs.
Happy and healthy 2011 to all.

Book Drive
Book Drive
Sponsored by Hayden’s Heart Heroes in partnership with The Shea-Smith Chapter of the National English Honor Society to benefit The Johns Hopkins Children’s Center.
Now through November 12, 2010, we will be collecting new books for children who are inpatient at The Johns Hopkins Children’s Center. Hospital stays can be lengthy and difficult. A good book is a great way for a child to escape into the world of literature, for just a bit.
Please consider donating a new book (or more than one) for a child ages infant through eighteen.
Donations may be dropped off or mailed to:
· 1719 Canal Run Drive, Point of Rocks, MD 21777
· Frederick High School
· Ali/Rob Lazorchak can meet you somewhere. (Email Alilaz@aol.com to arrange pick up)
· In the Baltimore area, contact Jeffrey Silverman, tenor4th@comcast.net ,to coordinate drop-off/pick -up.
Please help us put a book in the hands of every child in the hospital.
Thank you for your support.

Why Do We Need to Grow Up?
Hayden began Kindergarten this week and ever since I caught a gilmpse of his classroom, I have been wondering why we need to grow up? I guess I am more curious about why we are expected to be SO boring. I am not a boring person. As a matter if fact, I am quite exciting; some might say fascinating. But, because I am a " grown up" , I am expected to be boring.
I teach high school students and even they do not get to have that much fun. I do not see why we can't have circle time or sit around cracking up over the word underwear. Some underwear is very funny; ie. 3xl thong ( Picture it. On a hairy dude. Funny, right?) Really I just want a huge, brightly colored rug. There is one in Hayden's classroom and frankly, I want it. I want to put it in my classroom and dance on it ( Yesterday, I did twirl in a circle until a student could come up with an answer..I got relly dizzy, but it worked). Or use it to put my kids in groups. They would love it. They could still learn curriculum AND enjoy themselves.I know they enjoy my self-penned " Cheating Song", as well as my singing voice:-)
And snack time. Who does not love a snack? Who does not NEED a snack come mid-afternoon? We should all get snack time. A few Teddygrahams and a drink. Some fruit snacks. Perhaps some pretzels. I think it would make a few people I know a bit less grumpy. Afterall, one cannot function if their belly is rumbling. Some of my students eat at 10:36 ( yes, 36) in the morning. Of course they are starving my the time they reach me at the end of the day. I think that is why that boy ate all of the wood off his pencil yesterday.
Let's talk recess. Persnally, I need recess. I'd like to play jacks. Or, better yet, CHINESE jacks. Some days, I could use dodge ball. There are a few people I'd love to chuck a ball at ( their heads). Picture everyone you work with going outside to play for 30 minutes. It would be fabulous.
Most importantly, I want a bathroom in my classroom. This is a serious matter. As an avid water drinker, I frequently need use the bathroom. As a teacher, this doesn't work. If I leave my kids unattened they might start having sex ( ok, so they have grown up a bit.) I have to wait until class exchanges or lunch to go. Yesterday, I made the mad dash to the pot-tay at least 5 times, Each was a close call. Look, I am coming off of summer and have what is known an an untrained bladder. All summer long, I could go as I pleased, I went willy-nilly whenever I felt the urge ( pun intened). Now, because I am a grown up, I have to wait. And wait. If I had a bathroom in my room, things would go so much better...for me and my bladder.
Mostly, I just think we need to be able to laugh, alot. So, as my favorite six year old would say, "Pineapple, Underpants, Poopy, Poopy. HAHAHA".

One Down
Everyone keeps asking me if I am ready for Hayden to go to Kindergarten. The answer, umm, YES! It means he is a cool six year old. Long gone are the baby abd toddler days that I did not really love, or like, at all. I love " big " kids. Not so much little kids.
People seem to expect me to be emotional and nostalgic. " Aww, my baby is so big" kind of crap. That really isn't me. I want him to go out in the world, be kind to others, laugh, and perhaps learn a few things. ( other than the sarcasm I am teaching him at home).
I will say that this is a milestone for us. Right after Hayden was born, one of my best friends sent me a quiz. It was one of the copy and paste quizzes that you send on to your friends. The point was to reveal things about yourself that your friends might not know. One of the questions was, " I'd like to see...". Most people entered exotic locales and fabulous travel destinations. My response came quite easily to me and I immediately typed, " Hayden go to Kindergarten, Hayden's Bar Mitzvah, Hayden graduate and Hayden get married." At the time, those were things I wanted for him, but was not really sure we'd see. Oddly, I have remembered that quiz over the years and can't help but think of it, again, as he approaches the start of school. For us this is a milestone. We fought, hard, to get here. Hayden leading the fight all the way. Amazing as always.
So, one milestone down, three to go. I hope to type this same blog entry seven years from now on the eve of his Bar Mitzvah. I also hope that I have a great dress to wear. Oh, and fabulous shoes.
